About
Victor Montori was born and raised in Peru where he completed medical school. Victor moved to the United States for residency training at the Mayo Clinic and also completed a Master’s degree in Biomedical Science at Mayo Clinic. He then studied for two years with Gordon Guyatt at McMaster University. Victor returned to Mayo Clinic and in 2004 began the Knowledge and Evaluation Research (KER) unit that aims to make healthcare more effective and personalized to individual patient needs and wants.
Victor is a clinician (endocrinologist), health services researcher, care activist, and healthcare innovator and a prolific patient care advocate. He is also the 2024-2025 Human Rights and Technology Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School. Victor is a recognized expert in evidence-based medicine, shared decision making, and minimally disruptive medicine.
Victor is the founder of The Patient Revolution (TPR), a registered charity promoting a global movement for careful and kind care (https://www.patientrevolution.org/). Victor’s book, titled “Why We Revolt”, is a clarion call for society to focus its healthcare efforts on what really matters to patients and those who care for them instead of on the industrialization of healthcare that is more interested in efficiency, greed and profit (https://www.patientrevolution.org/store/p/whywerevolt). Victor is a prolific academic scholar; he has published almost 800 peer-reviewed papers and he is in the top 1% of most frequently cited health services research in the world.
Victor is an avid reader, although he recognizes that he often “listens” to book these days while he walks to work or walks his dog, Bruno. He also enjoys watching Nordic noir TV series. Victor is married to Claudia and has three sons, Victor, Juan Pablo and Alonso.
Through The Sweet Spot Leader program, Victor seeks to pass along his experience and wisdom to those who, like him, are dedicated to leading transformational change to make our world a better place for everyone.
