About
Zach Lund is an elite American skeleton athlete known for his resilience, competitive excellence, and commitment to the sport of skeleton racing, a discipline that demands both physical fearlessness and sharp mental focus. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Zach grew up competing in ice sports and ultimately found his calling in skeleton, racing head-first down icy tracks at speeds exceeding 80 miles per hour.
Throughout his career, Lund showed the determination and discipline required to compete at the highest levels of international sport. After transitioning from luge to skeleton in 1999, he quickly rose through the ranks, winning two America’s Cup titles and consistently placing among the top athletes in World Cup competition. He went on to become a member of both the U.S. National Team and the U.S. Olympic Team, earning a place on two Olympic teams. His career highlights include winning the Overall World Cup title in the 2006 to 2007 season, earning more than 20 World Cup medals including six gold medals, and capturing two World Championship medals. He also achieved a fifth-place finish at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, narrowly missing the podium.
Lund’s journey was not without adversity. In 2006, while ranked number one in the world and preparing for the Olympic Games in Turin, he was disqualified due to a banned substance found in a long-used prescription medication that was legal for five of the six years that Zach was taking the medicine. The substance was later removed from the banned list, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed that he had no intent to cheat. Although he was unable to compete that year, the experience strengthened his resolve. He returned the following season to win the overall World Cup title, proving his ability to overcome setbacks and perform at the highest level.
After retiring from competition, Lund continued his involvement in the Olympic movement as a coach, mentor, and leader. He has helped guide athletes to reach their full potential both on and off the track and has coached U.S. Olympic and National Teams to multiple Olympic, World Championship, and World Cup medals. He also serves as the High Performance Director for the Ghana Bobsled and Skeleton Federation, where he is helping grow the sport on an international level.
Today, Lund is a sales representative with the Craniomaxillofacial division of Stryker. He takes great pride in working alongside surgeons and hospitals to provide solutions that support excellent patient outcomes. Whether in sport or in the operating room, he relies on strong personal character, a consistent work ethic, and a commitment to continued growth to help others succeed.
Lund remains active in his community and is dedicated to giving back. He serves as Vice President of the Utah Chapter of the U.S. Olympians and Paralympians Association and is a member of the Board of Directors for The Sharing Place, a nonprofit organization that supports grieving families.
His journey reflects a clear belief that success is built through resilience, hard work, and a willingness to grow, and that true leadership is measured by the impact you have on others.
